The Colorado Avalanche announced Thursday they have signed first-round draft pick Matt Duchene to a three-year, entry-level contract. Duchene, the third pick overall, is the highest pick in the franchise’s Colorado history.

“Matt is an integral part of our future,” Avs GM Greg Sherman said in a release. “He is a very skilled, two-way player with a strong work ethic and great character.  We’re excited to have him under contract and look forward to him participating in training camp this fall.”
