  • Pez dispenses with the pleasantries (John Moore) — Pez isn’t very sweet. At least, not to a California couple who created a shrine to the goofy candy dispensers. The candy maker has left a bitter taste in their mouths after slapping them with a lawsuit for trademark infringement.
  • Will Rockies bring back O’Dowd in 2010? (Steve Foster) — The days of Trader Dan — when Colorado Rockies general manager Dan O’Dowd remade the roster every couple weeks or so — are long gone. For the past three or four seasons, the Rockies have adopted a cautious, wait-and-see approached for most of the dealings, relying on homegrown prospects and other teams’ rejects — Matt Herges in 2007, 4/7 of the Rockies’ current bullpen — for minor roster makeovers.
  • Pet airline putting paws down in Colorado today (John Moore) — This is one flight where things are guaranteed to get hairy. The world’s first airline for pets will land in Colorado for the first time today — hopefully not in a big cloud of fur. The aptly named Pet Airways, which caters to passengers of the four-legged, tail-wagging variety, is expected to touch down this afternoon at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport in Broomfield.
  • Potato Famine fungus hits home gardens in U.S. (Cindy House) –If, like me, you have a little Irish in you, chances are good that your ancestors were affected by the Potato Famine of the 1840s and 1850s. The famine was caused by “late blight,” a fungus that spreads through airborne spores and quickly ravages potato and tomato plants. Now, late blight is showing up in backyard gardens and retail garden centers in the Northeast U.S.
