How tweet it is.

Twitter, the free social-networking Web site, might actually have something important to chirp about soon: The Nobel Peace Prize.

A former adviser to the Bush administration is pretty keyed up about the micro-blogging service and has started lobbying for its nomination.

The site’s logo is a bird, and users send “tweets,” or short messages, to tell the world what they are doing at the moment, which often isn’t anything notable — much less Nobel-ble. But in the case of the Iranian elections, Mark Pfeifle is flying high about how protesters flocked together using Twitter to coordinate their plans.

In fact, Pfeifle, who was in national security but now pecks out a living in PR, is calling social media sites “the soft weapons of democracy.”

Corrupt leaders and Twitter spammers might want to watch out. This could bring a whole new meaning to being tarred and feathered.
