Animals do the darnedest things: penguin suit

More journal entries from John Moore »
Going bald is for the birds.
But now a penguin in England that lost its feathers has been given a wetsuit to prevent sunburn.
Ralph, a 9-year-old Humboldt penguin at the Marwell Wildlife center near Winchester, England, lost all of his feathers in one day, instead of the normal molting period of a few weeks. Luckily, his keepers are no bird brains: They fashioned him some protective attire out of the leg of a human wetsuit.
Considering that penguins usually look like they’re wearing tuxedos, Ralph seems to be taking his more mundane new duds in stride. He’s expected to be in the suit for about three weeks while his feathers grow.
If you feel like you’ve read this story in black and white before, it isn’t the first time a penguin has been ducked, uh, decked out in a wetsuit.
