Giambi solid in Rockies minor-league debut

Notwithstanding the fact that in a Colorado Springs Sky Sox uniform, Jason Giambi looks a little like a washed-up minor-leaguer, the former American League MVP had a successful debut for the Rockies’ Triple-A club Wednesday night. Giambi, the Sky Sox’s designated hitter, hit third in the lineup and went 2-for-4 and drove in a run.
Giambi, who last played in the major leagues on July 19 and was released by the Oakland Athletics on Aug. 7, likely will join the Rockies as a pinch-hitter when the rosters expand next week.
