If it can go wrong, it will: Crystal pall

More journal entries from John Moore »
If you own a crystal ball, be careful where you put it — or your future could be smoky.
A crystal ball ornament is being blamed for a freak fire that destroyed a woman’s home in Worle, England.
The $33 orb is believed to have magnified the sun’s rays streaming through a window, causing the curtains, a sofa and a television to burst into flames. The woman wasn’t home at the time and is safe.
Maybe it’s time to start insuring against crystal-ball-related disasters. This isn’t the first time one of the glassy orbs has turned out to be an unforeseen peril:

- Scotland, 2005 – Psychic’s crystal ball burns down his flat in unforeseen blaze, London Times
- Oklahoma, 2004 – Crystal ball starts fire at Oklahoma home, firehouse.com
