Colorado coach Dan Hawkins and Colorado State coach Steve Fairchild have been evasive at best when questioned about who will start at quarterback in their rivalry game on Sept. 6. CU’s incumbent starter, junior Cody Hawkins, is being pushed by sophomore Tyler Hansen, who is bigger and more mobile but who has little experience. Fairchild is poor-mouthing his own quarterback competition, which appears to have been narrowed down to senior Grant Stucker and juco transfer Jon Eastman. A delayed recovery from a shoulder injury has kept CSU sophomore Klay Kubiak from competing for the job in camp. The favorites as this point? Hawkins and Stucker.

CU captains named: Senior linebackers Jeff Smart and Marcus Burton and senior tight end Riar Geer were elected Sunday as the team captains for the 2009 season.
