The good news is the Rockies not only held their own against National League East leading Philadelphia, but won comfortably. The bad news is it did nothing for their position in the standings. The Rockies entered Tuesday 6 1/2 games behind the Dodgers in the National League West standings and a half game ahead of the Giants in the wild card. That is where they ended the day as well.

  • The Dodgers demolished the Brewers 17-4.
  • The Giants, who lost the wild-card lead with a loss Monday, bounced back against the Astros 8-1.
  • The Cubs, who the Rockies will host in a four-game series starting Friday, beat the Reds 6-3 to maintain a share of the National League Central Lead and stay 1 1/2 games behind the Rockies.
  • The Cardinals beat the Mets in 10 innings 12-7 to match the Cubs’ position.

The Florida Marlins, Atlanta Braves, Houston Astros and Milwaukee Brewers are still lurking a few games back in the wild card but a significant gap has emerged between the leaders and the rest of the field.
