Snack lovers rejoice: Popcorn is good for you!

Fruits and vegetables have long dominated the list of healthy foods, but it looks like they may be getting some company: popcorn and whole-grain cereals and snacks.
Researchers have discovered that — just like fruits and vegetables — these foods have high amounts of antioxidants, substances that fight cell damage and are linked to a variety of health benefits.
The highest amount of antioxidants were found in whole-grain cereal with raisins, mostly because of the extra antioxidants in the raisins. But popcorn wasn’t far behind. Also on the good-for-you list: whole-grain crackers and cereals with whole-grain corn or oats.
Nutritionists caution that moderation is still key — you should go easy on the butter when snacking on popcorn. And you shouldn’t pig out on sugary cereal, even if it’s whole-grain.
Nevertheless, this research is likely to be hailed by parents whose kids routinely leave the broccoli untouched.
