Rockies prospect Rogers set to make debut
The Colorado Rockies will push back pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez’s next start from Saturday to Tuesday. One of the team’s top pitching prospects, Esmil Rogers, will make the start in his place. Rogers, who was 11-7 with a 4.41 ERA between Double-A and Triple-A this season, has been traveling with the team but not on the active roster.
The move allows the Rockies to give Jimenez three more days of rest to recover from a strained hamstring. Tuesday also was the next schedule start for Jose Contreras, who injured his right quadriceps in Thursday’s 5-1 win over the Reds.
As for Rogers, he will get to make his first major-league start in a pitcher’s park against one of the weakest offenses in the league.
