Wildfire smoke haze persists across Colorado
Smoke from the California wildfires and other fires in the West continues to blanket Colorado, although the haze rates “thin” in much of the northern part of the state, including Denver, according to NOAA satellite data as of about 2 p.m. Wednesday.
A “moderately dense” band of smoke cuts across the central part of Colorado and into the southeast part of the state. The thickest haze extends from east central and southeast Colorado through western Kansas and into Oklahoma and Texas.
The smoke advisory that Colorado health officials issued Tuesday has expired. However, as a general guideline, they recommend that if the smoke in your area reduces visibility to less than five miles, it is an unhealthy level and you should limit outdoor activities.
The Station Fire, north of Los Angeles, is on track to become one of the top 10 largest wildfires in California history. Firefighters made gains on the blaze Tuesday, aided by higher-than-normal humidity. However, drier air returned Wednesday.
