Will Broncos’ Marshall become another team’s problem?

More journal entries from Steve Foster »
The Denver Broncos have hinted strongly that they have no intention of trading disgruntled wide receiver Brandon Marshall. After Jay Cutler whined his way out of town, the Broncos have seemed reluctant to let another key player make personnel decisions for the team.
But just as important in holding up a possible deal is the unlikelihood that the Broncos would get enough for him. Anything less than a high second-round draft choice — if not a first-rounder — and the Broncos would be underselling Marshall even now.
The Pro Football Talk blog at nbcsports.com reported Monday the Broncos are sending mixed signals about their plans with Marshall, saying publicly they don’t plan to trade him but negotiating discreetly with unnamed teams on a possible deal.
On Tuesday, New York Newsday reports one of the teams long rumored to be interested in Marshall is again considering a trade despite Marshall’s suspension last week.
At this point, Broncos fans would likely forgive the team if they traded Marshall for fair value — he doesn’t want to be part of the team and the team doesn’t want him the way he’s acting. As long as there are rumors the Broncos are shopping Marshall, he has no real incentive to swallow his pride, act like an adult and return to the Broncos offense.
A trade does seem more likely at this point. Sadly, one NFL team that could really use a wide receiver is Marshall’s current team.
